Walker Jones School, Washington, DC
July 2, 2008 – Forrester Construction Company’s Education Group has been awarded the $36 Million Walker Jones School in Washington, DC. This will be the fastest new public school built in the history of the District of Columbia. The project will include the demolition of two existing schools- Terrell Junior High School and Walker Jones Elementary School and construction of a new 100,000 SF Pre-K-8 school, 5,000 SF public library, and 20,000 SF public recreation center. All three components will be housed in one new four-story U-shaped building.

The facility will be built for LEED™ Certification and will include a green roof. New playing fields, surface parking, and landscaping will also be provided. The site is located in Northwest Washington, DC on the block bounded by New Jersey Avenue, Pierce Street, 1st Street, and L Street. This will be the first major project to be implemented as part of the District’s Northwest One Master Plan. The new facility will be jointly managed by the District of Columbia Public Schools, the District of Columbia Department of Parks and Recreation, and the District of Columbia Public Library.
Forrester began construction in March 2008, with the School portion to be occupied in August 2009 and the Library and Recreation Center portions to follow. The owner is the District of Columbia Public Schools and the Owner’s Representative are Banneker Associates and Regan Associates, LLC. The Architect is Hord Coplan Macht, Inc of Baltimore, MD.
