Walker Jones School
This project by Forrester Construction involved tearing down 2 existing buildings and replacing them with 3 new buildings now informally known as Walker Jones School. It involved the construction of a new 100,000 SF pre-K -8 school, 20,000 SF public recreation center, 5,000 SF public library and the demolition of two existing schools – Terrell Junior High School and Walker Jones Elementary School.
Walker Jones Education Campus was the first new school complex built under former Mayor Fenty’s administration that required new schools built in the District to pursue an LEED™ for Schools rating. The facility, which is LEED™ Silver Certified, has an interactive green roof for students studying science. The facility also includes state-of-the-art efficient heating / cooling systems, featuring radiant panels.
Walker Jones School is the fastest school ever built in the District of Columbia.
