Grand Oaks Senior Living Facility

Located on the grounds of Sibley Hospital in Washington, DC, the Grand Oaks Senior Living facility is a residential complex for seniors who require ongoing, specialized care. For this project Forrester constructed a four story Georgian-style brick structure with 104 private apartments and common areas.

A stately grand entrance with a porte cochere welcomes residents and guests to the facility. The landscaped grounds include a greenhouse and terraced patios. Inside, the club room and community living rooms feature a Caribbean motif with custom millwork. The building also has a full-service commercial kitchen and communal dining room, a whirlpool spa, a beauty salon and barber shop and a chapel.

The residential units are spacious and bright with nine-foot ceilings and large windows. Each one has an individual temperature control system and a kitchenette. Some apartments feature balconies, terraces, gardens and sitting rooms with fireplaces.

This project also involved construction of a pedestrian and utility tunnel connecting the Grand Oaks complex to the main hospital and the skilled nursing facility. To perform underground construction on an active hospital campus, Forrester carefully coordinated work to maintain utility services minimizing disruptions for patients and staff..
