National Institutes of Health | 9800 Medical Center Drive
National Institutes of Health | 9800 Medical Center Drive houses four research groups of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This Forrester Construction project included a phased, occupied renovation involving selective demolition and new construction on site and within three existing buildings.
The NIH renovation required an extensive mechanical upgrade to the building and lab spaces including reverse osmosis water purification, purified humidification systems for air distribution, new chillers, air handlers, generators, fuel storage systems and cryogenic storage systems for nitrogen and carbon dioxide.
Work throughout the three buildings consisted of the demolition and fit out of laboratories, clean rooms, offices, meeting rooms, support spaces, interior partitions, lab gas piping and new mechanical, electrical and fire protection systems. Rooftop equipment was also placed on one of the buildings requiring structural reinforcement and a new metal screen wall.
