H. Carl Moultrie Courthouse

H. Carl Moultrie Courthouse named for former Chief Judge H. Carl Moultrie was renovated by Forrester Construction.  This District of Columbia Superior Court courthouse is the largest in Judiciary Square. The building, located at 500 Indiana Avenue, NW, was originally built in the early 1970’s and now houses one of the busiest courts in the country. For these projects, Forrester completed a phased interior renovation and addition that included six new courtrooms, judges’ chambers, offices, public spaces, administrative support areas and inmate holding spaces. Security improvements were also made that required construction of AV equipment closets.

Since the Moultrie Courthouse is open six days a week and remained fully operational during construction, continuity of operations was a high priority. Forrester participated in three months of planning and coordination with DC Courts, U.S. Marshals and the project’s architect prior to the start of work. To ensure minimization of disturbances, work was phased and coordinated around the court docket and ongoing activities.
