Community of Hope Family Health and Birthing Center

Community of Hope (COH) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the health and quality of life of under-served, low-income, homeless families and individuals in the District of Columbia by providing quality healthcare, education, housing, and quality-of-life services. This project was a complete repositioning of a 3-story, 14,500 SF office building built in 1963. The building is now a primary care and birth center with administrative office space and pharmaceutical office addition.

The work included a vertical expansion to add a new 7,000 SF third floor, green roof, and a new one-story addition at the ground level. The existing building was selectively demolished, and shoring and underpinning were required to maintain portions of the structure while safely eliminating others. Sections of the façade were removed, the slab on grade was trenched for new underground utilities, and new structural footers to allow for the additional new floor were added to the building.

Our team upgraded MEP systems across the building, including a new electrical feed to upsize the building capacity, new electrical duct banks, and new transformers to support that enhancement. .
