Calvert County Administrative Building Project: How it Started, How It’s Going, and What is to Come!

Forrester Construction is excited to share the design and construction process of the new Calvert County Administrative Building. This building will hold most county government departments and services under one location.

The team began this project in September 2023 and expects to complete it in July 2025. Take a look at our timeline and what is to come by the end of this construction!

2023 Overview:

They demolished the old Calvert County Government Administration Building to begin constructing the new building. After the demolition, they had to remove the water and sewer lines from the previous building to install new ones for the new building.

  • September: Demolished the existing building and began construction
  • October: Removed the water and sewer line from the previous building
  • November: Installed the site water line for the new building
  • December: Backfilled the retaining wall and installed storm piping and structures

2024 Overview:

Subsequently, once the construction team built the retaining wall for the building, they began the foundation work, including the installation of concrete columns, metal stairs, steel framing, and concrete slabs.

  • January: Began the foundation work of the building
  • February: Placed and reinforced the concrete columns
  • March: Installed level two stairs and garage concrete slab on grade
  • April: Installed third-floor steel framing, elevator three shaft level two, stair B shaft level four, and penthouse
  • May: Installed the roof steel framing, first-floor wall layout, second-floor concrete slab placement, and third-floor metal decking
  • June: Topped out the structural steel of the building
  • July: Installed topped slab placement and roof drain
  • August: Installed penthouse wall and parapet framing, third-floor interior wall framing, and roof curb roofing
  • September: Installed Storefront window
  • October: Installed window opening detailing and storefront punch window including the glass
  • November: Installed Masonry
  • December: Wired in-wall power, interior partition insulation, brick, and cast stone

2025 Overview:

  • January: Began preliminary interior drywall finishing, prime painting, and ceiling grid installation.

What’s To Come

Upon completion in July, the 103,000 SF building will stand four stories tall in addition to a mechanical penthouse that will bring together departments from all aspects of the County government.
