ASHA went for the Gold and Got It!
October 8, 2008 – The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) recently received it’s LEED™ Gold Certification. This Forrester project involved the interior build-out of a five-story building for ASHA’s new National Office located in Rockville, Maryland.
This makes ASHA the first non-profit association in Maryland to achieve a Gold LEED™ designation by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED™ certification provides independent, third-party verification that a building project meets the highest green building and performance measures.
Some of the facility’s sustainable design features include a design that maximizes the amount of daylight into the building to reduce the need for lighting; paints, carpets, and bamboo woods with low-emitting finishes; and a white-colored roof that will reduce cooling costs by more than 50%.
