Shady Grove Hospital Chiller Plant

For this project Forrester Construction adapted Shady Grove Hospital Chiller Plant to enhance energy and water efficiency and reduce utility costs.  Shady Grove Adventist Hospital is a 331-bed acute care facility in Rockville, MD.

Improvements to the chiller plant included increasing the capacity of the condenser side unit and water side economizer allowing the system to match the actual load during operation. The chiller also received new pumps with high-efficiency motors featuring VFD’s that accommodate variable speed flow. Piping that provides an emergency connection to a temporary chiller was also installed. These upgrades significantly improved water conservation and reduced the system’s energy use.
