May 7, 2010 – Forrester Construction wins two 2010 National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) MD / DC Awards for the following projects:
Walker Jones School; Washington, DC
Award of Merit – Best Institutional Facility
Walker Jones is the first new school and library to be built under Mayor Adrian Fenty’s Administration and is also the first public facility to be finished as part of Northwest One, one of the District’s four New Communities projects. The Facility was built for LEED™ Certification and has an interactive green roof for students studying science. It is the fastest school ever built in the District of Columbia. This project included a 125,000 square foot facility – housing a new 100,000 SF pre-K-8 school, a 5,000 SF public library, and a 20,000 SF public recreation center. All three parts are in a four-story U-shaped building, which encompasses an entire city block. The library and recreation center are shared by the school and the surrounding community.
Potenza Restaurant; Washington, DC
Award of Excellence – Best First Floor Retail
This 11,000 SF project involved the construction of a restaurant, bakery, and a wine store, which were all built in the historic Woodward Building at 15th and H Streets, NW. The 175-seat Italian restaurant includes a new main bar with a zinc bar top, service bar area, dining areas with millwork server stations, and a kitchen with seating at the kitchen line counter.
These awards were presented at an Awards Ceremony held on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at the Willard InterContinental Hotel in Washington, DC. NAIOP is the leading organization for developers, owners, and related professionals in office, industrial, and mixed-use real estate.
